The echoes of every time you have been told to try out a new diet or the countless random tid bits that have had come your way at family functions, suddenly come rushing back.

1. MYTH - Drinking 3 cups of green tea everyday will help you lose weight.
FACT - While decreasing caffeine in your diet always is a bonus, green tea in itself won't make you lose weight. Successful weight loss is the result of a combination of maintaining a healthy diet and introducing movement in your day to day life. There is no magic pill to staying fit.
If fitness came in a bottle, everyone would drink it!
2. MYTH - Consuming fats is bad for your health and won't help you lose weight.
FACT - There are two kinds of fats - Healthy fats and Unhealthy fats. While consumption of unhealthy fats that come in the form of pre-packaged food and corn syrup are harmful to health, Healthy Fats that come from food substances such as vegetable oils, nuts , seeds and fish help you maintain high energy levels and reduce spikes in your blood sugar level.
3. MYTH - Cardio is the only way to lose weight!
FACT - While we acknowledge that cardio (running, high intensity interval training, zumba etc.) are great additions to your workout schedule, only focusing on cardio will not get you the results you are looking for. A combination of cardio, strength-based training and stretching is the key to weight loss and a fit body. A combination of different kinds of workouts help you burn fat and gain muscle mass which cardio alone may not be able to provide you.
4. MYTH - Once you begin to lose weight, you shed a few pounds everyday.
FACT - Losing weight is not a linear process. While some weeks might be easier to lose weight, others might not be and that is extremely normal. Bloating and water weight are large causes for this.
Don't just rely on the number on the scale, inch loss is more effective!
5. MYTH - Stop eating carbohydrates - they are what make you fat!
FACT - While reducing the amount of carbs in your day to day life can definitely aid in weight loss, cutting them out entirely is not advisable. Whole foods that have carbs are great to boost your energy and aid in recovery after a tough workout.
It is the refined carbs like refined grains and sugar that you should stay away from!

6. MYTH - If it says "diet" on the label, it is healthy for me!
FACT - Not all labels that have the word "diet" on them are healthy. Always remember to check food labels when buying packaged food in order to know what it is you are consuming. Many products that are marketed as diet may still contain harmful contents like corn syrup and high levels of sugar which will not aid in your weight loss journey!
7. MYTH - All calories are equal, as long as I stay in my calorie limit I can eat what I want.
FACT - Different food groups take different metabolic pathways and can have a drastic difference on your body and its ability to lose weight. Increasing the amount of protein in your diet can be extremely beneficial in covering your calories as well as promoting fat loss and a higher level of muscle mass.
8. MYTH - Losing weight depends on your willpower alone!
FACT - While having the willpower to make a sustainable lifestyle changes is key in a weight loss journey, there may also be various biological factors contributing to weight gain. Medical conditions such as PCOS and depression can have a huge effect on your hormones which may introduce weight gain. It is always advisable to seek the right kind of medical attention and lose that weight in the safest way possible for YOU.
